Katharina Schmidt

Policy Advisor

Katharina Schmidt is a Policy Advisor for climate change adaptation in IISD’s Geneva office. She leads and supports the delivery of various projects on climate change adaptation, with a current focus on trade and human mobility.

With experience in policy analysis and advisory work, program development, and project management, Katharina has worked in EU, UN, and bilateral development cooperation straddling climate adaptation, security, and migration. Most recently, she worked as an advisor in the GIZ programs Climate Services for Infrastructure Investment as well as Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change, where she was responsible for project implementation, liaising with government partners, and technical support for climate risk assessments.

Katharina holds a master’s degree in international development studies from the University of Amsterdam and a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology from the University of Hamburg.
